Robot in Loughboroughs Market Street

Reports are coming in that Loughborough Town Centre was yesterday infiltrated by a giant robot.

The robot which some eye witnesses say they saw in Market Place and Market Street at various times yesterday afternoon stood some 8ft tall, was metallic in colour, had blue glowing eyes and spoke in sound bites. Some people were terrified and ran, some were amused and stood their ground, all were entertained.

A spokesman for Charnwood Borough Council advised that there was no need for concern and that the robot was one of the many vaudevillian acts that descended on the town centre for the annual Streets Alive organised in conjunction with Charnwood Arts.

Numerous street entertainers and musicians together with fair ground rides entertained a surprisingly large crowd given the weather forcast for the whole afternoon.

Appearing on the main stage Oojami were the main attraction and obviously the crowds favourite. Their music style is difficult to describe . "Oojamis music is groove orientated, but I like to use melodic parts to make it different," explained Necmi Cavli who is behind it. "Although the major element is Turkish - because thats what Im most familiar with - I aim to be more global. A global band with Turkish influences, rather than a Turkish or Anglo-Turkish band. However it is not very easy to identify what Turkish music is. Its really very difficult to tell where they originated from, whether from the Middle East or North Africa. For example, some of the most famous songs in Turkey are in fact of Arabic origin."

Their music was something else, and with the Sufi and Bellydancer on stage it trully was something to lighten a Loughborough Bank Holiday Monday.
