Boeing's new spaceship cabin looks like something out of Star Trek

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With virgin Galactic dominating the fringes of space Boeing is looking to take the lead on interstellar travel with its futuristic new spaceship
Boeing has taken the wraps off its new spaceship interior and it looks an awful lot like something out of Star Trek. The cabin of the CST-100 spacecraft is the first from Boeing that has been designed for paying passengers, not NASA astronauts.

The sleek interior places considerable emphasis on comfort and space, both words you would hardly associate with the current crop of spaceships.

Boeing has used large windows to help give passengers and the pilot a much wider field of view whilst also showing off the incredible views that would inevitably then follow.

To help move the idea of space travel into the realms of reality Boeing's also transferred a lot of design cues over from its new range of airliners using the company's trademark blue lighting scheme.

Obviously there's no in-flight entertainment because, well, you'll be in actual space but the seat configuration does allow for hand luggage and up to 10 passengers for short journeys.

With Bigelow looking to launch the first privately owned space station by 2016 Boeing actually plans to have the CST-100 flying passengers by the time the space station is ready.

Facebook users inadvertently hack themselves while trying to hack friends

Facebook users in India have been tricked into hacking their own Facebook accounts – while attempting to hack their friends accounts.

Facebook users inadvertently hack themselves while trying to hack friends
this is how spam looks like

The scam claimed to offer a tool to find out the Facebook passwords of friends, but instead compromised the user’s account by tricking them into using some code that takes control of their account and exposes their friends’ data in the process.

“What really happens when you paste this code into your browser console window is that a series of actions are performed using your Facebook account without your knowledge.

Also read: SCAM: Facebook user accounts are Hijacking by hackers in the name of FB Hacking Tool

"Behind the scenes, your account is used to follow lists and users, and give likes to pages in order to inflate the follower and like counts defined by the scammers,” explained Satnam Narang, a security response manager for Symantec in a blog post.
'Facebook hacking'

The scam employs an instructional video explaining “Facebook Hacking”, which linked to a Google document that contains some code.

The code allows users to see friends’ Facebook passwords, according to the scammers, with the instructions attempting to convince users to paste the code into their browser console window – a feature of most browsers that allows developers to inspect and modify elements of a website and how it is presented in the browser.

The instructions explain that the code will take two hours to work, belaying immediate suspicion when nothing happens to reveal the passwords of their friends.

In reality the code performs actions behind the scenes using the would-be hacker’s Facebook account, including following certain users and liking pages. No doubt the scammers are being paid to artificially inflate the follower or like counts of some users and pages.
'Playing off the curiosity of your friends'

The code also attempts to attract new targets through social engineering on Facebook.

“Your account is also used to tag the names of all your friends in the comment section of the original post. This is done to help the scam spread further, playing off the curiosity of your friends, who may visit the post to find out more and hopefully follow the instructions as well,” explains Narang.

The scam uses a variation of what is called self cross-site scripting (self-XSS), where a user is tricked into entering code into their browser’s console window that performs certain actions on their behalf.
'Allow my account to be hijacked if I paste malicious JavaScript'

Facebook is aware of the scam and has tried to discourage users from falling for it, employing a warning page that blocks scripted actions with an option to manually “allow my account to be hijacked if I paste malicious JavaScript”.

“There is a popular scam going around that claims the user will gain some benefit (illicit access to someone else's account, some new Facebook feature, etc) by pasting some piece of JavaScript into the browser's console,” said Facebook on its JavaScript console warning page.

“The code usually posts the same scam on other people's walls, and subscribes the user to pages controlled by the attacker – but it could do much worse things. To avoid this, the console is now gently disabled in some browsers,” Facebook continues.
'If it sounds too good to be true…'

This type of scam is not new, and was first seen circulating around Facebook in 2011. This scam variant was first seen at the beginning of the year, modified from the original code that saw great success with between 50,000 to 100,000 users falling victim.

The new scam originates from India, according to Symantec, based by the locations of pages and profiles users are tricked into liking as part of the scam.

Users who have been affected by the scam should use their activity log on Facebook to track the errant likes and friending, removing those that the scam artificially created and any post that could spread the scam further.

“Always remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it is. Being able to hack someone’s Facebook password by just pasting some code into your browser sounds way too easy and should signal that this is a scam,” concludes Narang.

Microsoft to announce new Surface on May 20, may switch to Qualcomm for next-gen ARM device

Microsoft to announce new Surface on May 20, may switch to Qualcomm for next-gen ARM device

Microsoft to announce new Surface on May 20, may switch to Qualcomm for next-gen ARM device

Microsoft has signaled that it’s going to update its Surface at an upcoming announcement on May 20 with a new Intel product.

If rumors are accurate, we’ll see a new ARM device as well, possibly powered by a Qualcomm solution rather than the Nvidia SoCs that the company used for both the Surface RT and Surface 2. Surface sales were up by 50% last quarter, with total revenue of $494 million — but the Surface cost of revenue was $539 million, which keeps the entire segment in the hole.

Using Qualcomm for a new miniature Surface (possibly something in the seven to 10 inch range) makes sense for multiple reasons. While Nvidia originally planned to deploy two versions of the Tegra 4, the lower-end Tegra 4i has never shipped in volume to US customers (though the upcoming privacy-focused Blackphone will reportedly use this SoC). Microsoft was likely looking to trim power consumption and performance for its smaller device, and Qualcomm has a number of Snapdragon 600 products that could do it. That doesn’t mean Redmond is unhappy with Nvidia as a partner, but the Tegra manufacturer just may not have had a preferred solution for this segment.

Surface x86: Bay Trail or Haswell?

The other interesting question is whether we’ll see a Bay Trail-powered Surface mini or a point refresh on Surface 2 Pro. The problem with the latter is that Microsoft already did a recent CPU upgrade to the newer Surface; the Core i5-4300U replaced the Core i5-4200U earlier this year. Intel doesn’t really offer anything else that constitutes an improvement in the 15W TDP category — there’s the Core i5-4350U, which swaps CPU clock for additional GPU horsepower, and a Core i7-4510U with a slightly higher top-end frequency and an extra 1MB of L2 cache, but those are pretty slim pickings to hang an upgrade on.

Intel could give Microsoft a limited-edition Broadwell part (effectively launching its 14nm hardware early), but that’s the kind of move that would infuriate every other OEM partner.  The other alternative is that the company will launch two Surface mini tablets — an x86 flavor and ARM one. Whether this bifurcated strategy would confuse customers is an open question — in fact, the entire future of the ARM side of the Windows business is an open question, and one that Microsoft has previously hinted it might resolve by killing its Windows RT business. We know Bay Trail is powering a great many other Windows 8.1 small tablets, so using it in Mini-Surface 2 wouldn’t be unprecedented.

What Microsoft does with its miniature Surface tablet should signal exactly how serious it is about building an ARM ecosystem. If it keeps an ARM flavor in play (regardless of SoC vendor), it’ll mean it remains committed to developing for both architectures. If the Qualcomm rumor isn’t true, then launching an x86 miniature tablet (again, using Haswell or Bay Trail) will signal its decision to move back towards an x86-only shop.

Hackers stealing Google account's passwords smartly through new phishing attack

Hackers stealing Google account's passwords smartly through new phishing attack

Hackers stealing Google account's passwords smartly through new phishing attack

Google account passwords have been stolenby hackers since the beginning of the Internet but as time passed they found, according to Bitdefender, newer and easier ways that are harder to catch with traditional heuristic detection.

Hackers took advantage on how Google Chrome displays their data(URIs-Uniform Resource Identifiers) in their phishing attack, although Mozilla Firefox users suffered from this aswell.

CatalinCosoi, Chief Security Strategist at Bitdefenderexplains what hackers aim for with this scheme:“With access to users’ Google accounts, hackers can buy apps on Google Play, hijack Google+ accounts and access confidential Google Drive documents. The scam starts with an email allegedly sent by Google, with “Mail Notice” or “New Lockout Notice” as a subject.”

Below you can see a photo of an e-mail that frauds use to trick users: “This is a reminder that your email account will be locked out in 24 hours. Due to not being able to increase your Email storage Quota.Go to the INSTANT INCREASE to increase your Email storage automatically.”

gmail phishing

What happens when clicking the INSTANT INCREASE link? Users are redirected to a Google login web page that imitates the authentic one and asks for their credentials.

“What is interesting about this phishing attack is that users end up having the “data:” in their browser’s address bar, which indicates the use of a data URI scheme,” continues Catalin Cosoi.

Schemers manage to include in-line data in web pages as if they were external resources by using Base64 encoding. Base64 encoding role is to represent file contents, supplying the content of the fake web page in an encoded string within the data URI.

It is hard for regular users to understand what is happening,as Google Chrome does not show the whole string so the cyber-criminals exploit their lack of knowledge.

These being said, it is common for scammers to pose as services that contact people by e-mail for announcements or notifications. Among phishers’ favorite disguises we have Google, Facebook, eBay, PayPal, phone services and financial institutions. The most recent attack wanted to access users’ Gmail credentials, by targeting Google Drive’s landing page.

YouTube in talks to buy Videogame Streaming service 'Twitch'

YouTube in talks to buy Videogame Streaming service 'Twitch'

Google's video streaming service YouTube, is said to have reached a deal to buy Twitch, the most popular videogame streaming service. YouTube is said to have offered Twitch $1 billion as an all-cash offer even though both the companies have declined to comment on the deal. Google had acquired YouTube for around $1.65 billion in 2006.
Twitch is a San Francisco-based video streaming service that lets users upload and watch live gameplay videos for free. The videos can be streamed from Microsoft Xbox 360, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.
Twitch is also reported to have received offers from Microsoft and other companies but preferred YouTube as its partner. If the Microsoft-Twitch deal had gone through, the software giant would most likely have made the service as an Xbox exclusive which could have harmed Twitch's traffic from other consoles.
Despite not a well-known name except in gaming circles, Twitch is known to push more traffic than Facebook and Amazon in its peak hours. The company was launched in 2011 by Justin Kan and Emmett Shear who are the co-founders of Justin.tv. Shear is currently the CEO of the company. At the time of its foundation, the service raised about $35 million in funding from investors like Bessermer Venture partners, Alsop Louie Partners, WestSummit Capital, Take-Two Interactive Software, Thrive Capital and Draper Associates.
Even though Twitch is still available on Xbox, it will be interesting to see how YouTube deals with the Microsoft-owned platform as the two companies have had a bad relationship in recent times. Previously, Google had declined to develop a YouTube app for Windows and Windows Phone platform. Later, when Microsoft developed the app itself, Google revoked the developer API of that app.
Twitch is available on iOS and Android mobile platforms as an app as well. The service streams content in high definition and offers browsing option of the top streamers. Users can browse the service by game titles and also allows registered users to follow their favorite channels. On the PC, Twitch has been integrated into PC as a software as well (other than the in-browser support) through EA's Origin Software, Ubisoft's Uplay, and Nvidia's ShadowPlay feature.
Wall Street Journal on the other hand, has also confirmed the reports but says that the deal might not be finalized soon. Despite the rumors, YouTube and Twitch haven't denied the reports either.

Why is Octa-core still slow on cell phones?

Why is Octa-core still slow on cell phones?

Why is Octa-core still slow on cell phones?

Many people look at cell phones and want to see the number of cores in the processor, with the belief that multi-cores perform well and will not be slow. But when they buy eight-core phones and still feel they are slow, then they complain, “Why is eight-core still slow?”
Here is the answer broken down for you.
1. What processor is not slow?
In fact, a smoothly running system is not closely related to having multiple cores. Here, smoothness includes two parts. First is the system itself, actually the smoothness of the application starter. Second is the smoothness of operation of different applications.
What affects these two things is not how many cores you have, but rather the performance of individual cores and memory bandwidth.
In most cases, our starter and applications can only use one or two cores, can rarely use four, and to use eight is extremely rare.
So is the deciding factor in speed not having multiple cores, but individual core performance?
The market now offers A7, A9, A15, various editions of Snapdragon, as well as Intel processors, with large differences in performance.
If you are using A7, eight-core is not even as good as an A15 dual-core. When it comes to smoothness, the frequency and type of individual cores is more important, having a larger number of cores is useless.
2. Memory bandwidth is actually more crucial.
Smart phones and tablets are all SOC, meaning the graphics core is integrated, sharing memory bandwidth with the CPU, with no independent memory. And resolution is getting better for phones and tablets, this puts a great demand on memory bandwidth.
Programs need to run inside the internal memory. If the processor is quick, and the memory access speed can not keep up, the system will still be slow. And as resolution increases, so will the demand on memory bandwidth.
When memory bandwidth is not enough and resolution is too high, no matter how fast the processor is the system will still be slow.
In the early days of Android, WVGA resolution was only 800*600=480,000 pixels, not much pressure on memory bandwidth.
But with soaring Android resolution, bandwidth became a problem. So how much bandwidth is needed? Let’s refer to Apple.
The New iPad is a very interesting short-lived product. Its  processor and resolution can be used as a reference.  A5X is actually only a dual-core A9 processor, the host frequency is not high, on the level of MT6577.
Supporting the New iPad’s smooth operation is the powerful A5X graphics performance and memory bandwidth reaching 12.8GB/s.
The New iPad’s resolution is 2048*1536=3,140,000 pixels. That is to say, Apple believes that 4GB/s of bandwidth for every 1,000,000 pixels can guarantee basic smoothness.
At the same time as the A5X, the A9 quad-core bandwidth was only 4.2GB/s and 6.4GB/s. They used a resolution of 1280*720=920,000 pixels. Every 1,000,000 pixels uses 4GB/s of bandwidth, so fundamentally it can guarantee smoothness.
And now with resolution of 1920*1080=2,070,000 pixels, only the 8064 with 8.3GB/s bandwidth can manage to support it.
That is why the first generation 1080P smart phones all used APQ8064.
The latest Qualcomm 801 (8974AC) memory bandwidth reaches 14.9GB/s, supporting 2560*1440=3,680,000 pixels. That is just over the 4GB/s per 1,000,000 pixel bottom line, but is still fundamentally smooth. That is why several of the latest phones dare to support this fundamental resolution.
But, several other processors on the market are not so optimistic. The MT6592 bandwidth is about 5.3GB/s, to support 720P is not a problem; but to support 1080P, each 1,000,000 pixels only gets 2.56GB/s. No matter how optimized the starter is, it will be hard to be smooth, that is why eight-core is still slow.
Similarly, the Huawei Ascend K910 bandwidth is 6.4GB/s, like the MT6592, but strains to support 1080P.
Lately, test reports shows that an Intel ATOM Z3735D tablet, 3,140,000 pixels with only 10.6GB/s of bandwidth, and it felt slow.
Memory bandwidth is actually more critical than the processor.

Facebook developing own video-chat app like snapchat

Facebook developing own video-chat app like snapchat

After buying WhatsApp and launching separate messaging app, Facebook Inc is developing its own video-chat app, known internally as Slingshot, after its failed attempt to acquire mobile messaging startup Snapchat, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

Facebook has been working for several months on the planned video-chat app, which would allow users to send short video messages using a touch-screen, the FT said, citing people familiar with its plans.

Slingshot could be launched this month, the paper cited one source as saying, while noting that Facebook might ultimately decide not to proceed with the launch of the app.

Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg has been overseeing the "top-secret" project after the social network company was unable to win Snapchat's creators, Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy, with its $3 billion takeover offer late last year, the FT said.

Snapchat, popular among teenagers, allows users to send smartphone photos that automatically disappear after a few seconds.

Facebook can now tell what song you're listening to

Facebook will add technology to its mobile apps that recognizes the music, movies or television shows its users are enjoying, in the company's latest move to give prominence to media and entertainment on its social network.

The new feature, which must be activated by the user and is off by default, would create a status update on Facebook that identifies the song a user is listening to and provide a 30-second preview of it that's available to the user's friends.

Facebook, which announced the move in a post on its official blog on Wednesday, is working with streaming music services Spotify, Rdio and Deezer to offer the music previews.

If a television show is detected, Facebook would highlight the specific season and episode that the user is watching and share it in their news feed.

The new tool comes as Facebook is increasingly competing with Twitter to become the main online venue where consumers discuss television shows, sports and other entertainment in real time.

The new feature activates the microphone on a smartphone and detects the music, movie or television show playing in the background, similar to the way the popular Shazam app works.

Once users activate the feature, the technology attempts to recognize the music or video playing in the background any time a Facebook user composes a status update.

Facebook said only songs or videos would be identified and the feature, which recognizes "millions" of songs, wouldn't store sounds in the background.

The new feature will be available on the Android and iOS versions of its app in the US in the coming weeks, the company said.

Now, eBay is asking all of its users to change their password as a security measure, let’s see what has been compromised?

  1. Name
  2. Email Addresses
  3. Encrypted Passwords
  4. Physical Addresses
  5. Phone Numbers

Above are the details what has been compromised in the cyber-attack, and the most important thing is, financial data is safe (according to eBay.)

How the attack came to know?

Cyber-attackers reportedly used employee login credentials to gain unauthorized access to eBay’s corporate network and a database that contained the above compromised details. Database was compromised between late February and early March. eBay first detected the compromised employee log-in credentials two weeks ago

Users’ financial information was not stored in the database, as we said above, that’s why no-need to worry about any financial information.

We have seen no evidence of unauthorized activity on eBay but that users should still change their passwords, says eBay.

Best 5 Wi-Fi Data Cards

Though mobile phones come with 3G connectivity, feature phones and many tablets do not have the facility to access the same on their own. Moreover, even though Android devices have ability to create WiFi hotspot, in doing so they can lose a lot of battery charge in a quick time. Hence, WiFi data cards are so important.

Here we have five such data cards with ability to create WiFi hotspot.
